Credit card providers are always on the look-out for new ways to attract customers. Barclaycard has just launches a new card that offers a life long 0% interest deal on season tickets to watch any sports team.

The idea is that the Barclaycard Football card will be used by football supporters for season tickets costing more than £250, but it can also be used by followers of other sports. The 0% offer can also be used for memberships of sports clubs, such as golf clubs. The card and deal is only available to people who have a clean history of credit.

Holders of the card can earn points by spending, but the trick is to only make purchases if you do not have a season ticket. Otherwise, any rewards will be negated by interest as payments will first go against the 0% balance, and interest could accrue on other spending at 14.9% APR.

If you are regular sports clothes buyer then you can buy clothes and equipment from JJB Sports, getting a £10 voucher for every £200 you spend, giving you a reward of 5%. Not all other offers are as attractive. There is a 0% offer on balance transfers available for 12 months for a fee of 2.5%. If you buy a season ticket and transfer a balance, you should be aware that after the 12 months are up, interest will start to build up on the amount left from the transfer, and any payments first go to pay off the 0% balance.

For transfer deals there are better offers available, such as RBS/NatWest with 0% fro 13 months and a fee of 2%. Capital One has a 0% offer to May 2008 and a fee of only 1.7%.

Barclaycard’s Football card takes over from the Barclaycard Premiership card, which had the same offering for season tickets, and anyone on the Premiership card will get an automatic transfer to the new card.
